I grew up on a dairy farm in Maine. After graduating from RISD with a BFA in Apparel Design, I moved to NYC and survived the Big Apple for 11 intense years — first as a fashion designer, then as a fashion illustrator, followed by a stint in graphic design and book cover illustration.
I moved to Philly in 1986, got into advertising, and have been here ever since. I found my longed-for Heart Home in the City of Brotherly Love. Ultimately, I've worn a number of hats over the years to make the green, which has kept a roof over my head, food in my stomach — and most importantly, provided a place to make Art.
Why do I do it? It's as necessary for me to make Art on a daily basis as eating and breathing. It's the most interesting thing I know how to do with my time — and one that affords the greatest personal satisfaction. More specifically: in 1991 I bought a house in South Philly, which I've been turning into the coolest art installation I ever thought possible — a place of art that I can call home. It's great fun! I welcome tours by appointment. Just email me: aldencole@icloud.com.
