This work is an exploration of the labor we are constantly undertaking to resolve the frictions of our lineage. Call it karma, past lives, epigenetics or inheritance — we carry the burdens of what we come from. This labor is a form of maintenance like brushing our teeth — it continues throughout our life and changes based on how we age and perform. The labor has some value for ourselves but does far more good for everything that comes after us.
I learned to knit in high school and have slowly built that skill over two decades. It’s now so integrated into my life that it can be thoughtless creativity. Nevertheless, every stitch takes time and effort to make. Every piece is built slowly, one step at a time.
